It's experienced by all that breathe
human beings, of every ethnicity
well off or struggling, ugly or beautiful.
Even to animals, of all sizes.
An elephant mother
that visits the bones of her child
even years after the calf is gone.
A dog who's lost their master
whether by death, choice, or betrayal.
All know it, all have suffered from it
during some point in their lives
that feeling of just being
so absolutely vulnerable
so completely isolated
so confused and weak.
It's hard to get through
to remove the weight
that can hang so idly on your shoulders
to find any iota of hope
when stuck in a seemingly endless void.
When there's nothing but darkness seen
it's hard to glance any flicker of hope
and may even seem like any of that hope
might cave in, and crush our spirit.
But the first step is always the hardest.
So don't despair and wallow in the shadows too long
for they may seem to amplify with each passing thought.
